The passage states that animals which keep their body temperatures constant are known as Endotherms. It also resists on the idea that dinosaurs were endotherms because of three main reasons. In the lecture, the professor refutes these seemingly wise reasons.
First, the author believes that dinosaurs were endotherms because there have been discovered fossils of them in Polar Regions. The professor opposes this reason by stating the fact that Polar Regions were warmer those days. She also says that dinosaurs could have been migrated to a warmer place. Furthermore, they might have been hibernated during the cooler periods as the reptiles do.
Second, The author claims that the position of legs, specially when they are positioned underneath the body could be another possible reason for an animal to be an endotherm. The professor refutes this and she believes that this would let the animal to grow to a larger size. She thinks that the legs should support more weights rather than being built for the running purpose.
Third, the professor says that there are growth rings alongside the Harvesian canals that act as an indicator of growth in an animal. It also shows that cooler periods might have caused the animal to grow slowly despite the fact that they grow non-stoppingly! She believes that real endotherms could grow rapidly, even when their environment is cool!
