The passage states that the dinosaurs were Endotherms by discussing three hypotheses. However, the speaker refutes the passage and gives justification to prove his point.
First, the author tells that the dinosaurs used to live in Polar region where only Endotherms could live. This indicates that they were Endotherms but this point is contraindicated by the lecturer. He mentions that Polar region used to be warmer than now at the time when dinosaurs used to live in there and during cold season it is possible fot them to just migrate or hibernate like modern reptiles do.
Second, the reading suggest that the side positioning of their legs indicate that they were fast runners like Endotherms but the speaker rebuts this point and explains that the dinosaurs were not the high energy Endotherms built for running. In fact, this kind of positioning of legs was to support more weight which allowed them to grow to large size and their huge size was quite beneficial for them.
Third, the author narrates that the presence of Haversian canal is a typical sign of dinosaurs being Endotherms. On the other hand, the speaker challenges this argument and says that along with the “Haversian canal”, dinosaurs also had growth rings in their bones which are basically present due to the bone thickening. The growth ring is seen in animals who do not grow consistently that is there is a period of slow or no growth in them along with a period of rapid growth but Endotherms do not have this growth rings as they grow consistently even when there is cold. Thus, it proves that dinosaurs were not endotherms.
