The professor in the lecture refutes the competing theories about Chaco structures in the reading passage. He gave three main points for holding his opinion.
First, the Chaco structures is similar to one by Native American however there are not many fire places for daily cooking. If there were hundreds of people inside, they would need more kitchen.
Second, about seeming as store food supplies. In the reading passage, Chaco people are believed to store their main crops such as grain maize. In fact that there is no evidence about grain and also from the result of excavation, there is no maize fossils. If they stored these crops, there should be more maize on the floor.
Third, the reading material have said that the house were used as ceremonial centers because a lot of broken pots were in the deposits. If the building used as ceremonial centers, why would not contain more materials they used? Moreover, the broken pots could be thought as left over from constructers.
