Both the lecturer and the author talk about the theories formulated to explain the utility of Chaco's structures. The lecturer does not agree with the opinions stated in the passage, saying that those theories are somewhat irrelevant when compared with archeological discoveries.
First, the inside shows that those buildings were not proper for human living. That is because the number of fireplaces was insufficient for all the inhabitants, being enough only for ten families. Since the capacity of the building is adequate for one hundred families, the would have built more heating systems. This is strong a counter-point against the passage.
Second, these houses couldn't have been used as a maize deposit. The passage says that the houses were large enough to store maize grains. However, the speaker states that there wasn't any supporting evidence discovered when excavation was made. Moreover, no other relevant evidence, such as containers, were found. This is another standpoint that contradicts the writer's point of view.
Third, the presence of broken pots does not prove that these places were used for special ceremonies since pots have a large utility. Not to mention that, among these remains, researchers also discovered other stuff such as material buildings and construction tools. Therefore, it can be assumed that the pots were used by workers. This fact is also directly contradicting the passage. n conclusion, the author, and he lecturer appear to be in disagreement regarding this topic.
