The article states that American companies do not tend to obtain ecocertification. and provide three reasons of support. However, the lecture explains that it is not true and refutes each of the author's reasons.
First, the reading states that because of advertisement, Americans do not pay attention to the ecocertification label. The professor refutes this point by stating that American people do not tread different advertisement in the same manner. People can distinguish between advertising the own company product and advertising a certificate which was achieved by an international agency. it should be stressed that Americans react favorable international certification.
Second, the article claims that the obtaining ecocertification will enhance the price of the products and American people prefer to buy products with the lower price. However, the professor contends that all the people in the world care about the price of a product. However, the price of a particular product is important when a competitor offers a lower price. If all companies in the US add the cost of obtaining ecocertification to their product it is not important anymore. Besides, the price is not the only factor for consumers since American citizens value protecting environment.
Third. the reading avers that since American companies do not export their product, they do not need to pursue the ecocertification. The lecture opposes this point by saying that as the environment is important for the American citizens, refusing to obtain ecocertification will open the market for foreign competitors. It means that tendency of the American consumer to buy the ecocertificated product will increase the entrance of foreign companies which have the certification.
