The reading claims that an international organization is issuing eco-certification to wood companies in order to encourage eco-friendly wood processing. According to the reading, this idea may not be successful in the American market for several reasons. The lecture instead states that this claim is not completely true and exposes few points to contrast the main idea of reading.
First, according to the lecture is not true that the American customers treat all the products in the same way. they pay attention to the eco-labels and they react more favorably to the products that have made with ecologically-sustainable practices. Indeed, the American customers’ concern about the environment has increased lately.
Second, the lecture contends that all of us pay attention to the price of the products that we buy. A study highlight that American costumers chose those cheaper only if the difference in the price is higher than 5%, in all the other cases they prefer to buy eco-friendly products even the price is a little bit higher than those no eco-labeled.
Third, most of the wood companies sell they products within the USA, the reading states that due to its cost the American wood companies are not interested in obtaining the eco-certification. The lecturer thinks if they will not follow this tendency, other international companies will do. As a consequence of this, they will decrease their selling due to the competition with the foreign eco-certificated wood company.
In conclusion, the reading states that the American’s wood companies will not take the cost that an eco-certification imply because of the American costumers first of all concern about the price of products. In contrast, the lecturer sustains that the concern about the environment among Americans is growing and this will lead to more competition between companies with eco-certification and companies that are not eco-friendly certificated.
