TPO 1, Integrated Task
The passage examines different aspects of the society which are impacted by establishing a four day week culture and strongly believes that these changes are all for good. On a different view professor's statements which were mentioned in the lecture oppose the three main points which were illustrated in the passage
First of all, a four day work week does seem to effect company's profit in a significant way. Although the passage mentions that forming a four day work week culture not only doesn't harm company's profit, but it also enhances it. Professor clearly contradicts this point by stating that there are more aspects involved in the final cost of an employee who is only working four days a week; it is true that this employee will get less salary but there are some costs which are inevitable for the company, like costs associated with training and extra equipment, and ultimately decreases company's profit.
Secondly, forming a four day work week culture is not going to increase the employment rate in a positive way. The author of the passage believes that with people working less in a week, more opportunities will rise for people who are currently unemployed but it doesn't seem to be the reality, according to the professor. Professor mentions that companies are not going to use this opportunity to hire more people who are currently unemployed; since they don't want to increase the costs associated with hiring new people, they choose to pressure their current employees to work overtime and even worst make them to deliver the same amount of work and efficiency they were delivering while working five days a week.
Finally, it doesn't seem that working for less days in a week is going to improve employee's well being and life. The passage states that employees working less will have more time to spend with family and friends and that is something that professor agrees with but there are other aspects of life that can also impacts employee's life like earning potential. Professor believes that people working less are less likely to be promoted or even worst lose their jobs when the economy is down.
Overall, it seems that although working for less days in a week has some benefits, there are some aspects that needs to be seriously
