Both the reading and lecture is about the reduction of Ottoer population in western and North coast of America to Alaska in which the argument is whether the pollution or predation decline Ottoer population. Author of the reading mention the pollution based reason. But the lecture cast doubts about this reason. She says that the predator is the main reason for declining the number of Otter.
Firstly, the author of the reading mention the increase use of chemical is found in the water sample of the sea which cause pollution and ultimately decrease number of otter. He further says that otter resistance to chemical is decreasing and this is the reason why otter number is decreasing. The lecture challenged those point . She she says that if the pollution is the cause of death of otter there will be death otter in the sea. But no death otter found in the sea. So she finally concluded that it is not the chemical but the predator which feed otter are responsible the decline of otter.
Secondly, the author of the reading mention the other number of sea mammal is decreasing due to the decrease of otter. He further explains that it is due to the pollution which cause all the sea mammal to decline. The lecture challenge this statement. She explains that the reason of other sea mammal like whale decreasing is due to the over hunting not the pollution. She also elaborate that small predator feed up otter which cause the decreasing of otter.
Finally author from the lecture believe that other part of the sea where there is less pollution, the number of otter population remains stable. He concludes that this means the pollution in other part is few and that is the reason of their number remains stable. But the lecture rebut this statement. She says that otter in other part of the sea lives in shallow sea or rocky place where large predator cannot move for hunt. She finalizes that the location of the other parts gives benefit to the otter to survive.
