The author claims that main reason in decline of sea otter is due to pollution and provides three reasons. However, the listening confute the author claims and negates each of the author reasons.
First, the author says that rise in chemical level around the habitat of otter have provoked decline in otter's number. The professors refutes this point by saying that if it is due to pollution, then why there are not otters body floating in ocean?
Second, the article posits that because of pollution, there is also decrease in other number of sea mammals. The professor, however, says that the decrease in other mammals such as whale is due to of human hunters. According to professor, since decrease in number of whale , which is a primary prey of otter, have caused otter to leave their habitat.
Third, The reading says that difference in number of otter at various regions are due to uneven pollution distribution by environmental factor such as ocean current. However, the professor explains that the basic difference may be due to discrepancy in otter's predator in various location. We have learned that the otter in shallow water the are of relatively small size, thus making them hard to hunt.
