TPO-17 - Integrated Writing Task In the past century, the steady growth of the human population and the corresponding increase in agriculture and pesticide use have caused much harm to wildlife in the United States, birds in particular. Unfortunately for b

The reading states that the number of birds,in upcoming year, are likely to decline and provides three reasons of support. The professor, however, states that the claim made by reading is unconvincing and refutes each of the author's reasons.

First, the article claims that human's population and habitat tend to increase, leading to destruction of habitat of birds. The professor confutes this point by saying that increase in human habitat provides suitable habitat for increase in bird's number. Further, he states that city dwellers and residents usually complain about the increase in number of pigeon, sea gal, and Hawk are seen in human habitat due to presence of numerous prey such as pigeon, in a human habitat.

Second, the reading posits that increase in agricultural activity leads to destruction of natural abode of birds. The professor, on the other hand, asserts that use of agricultural land is decreasing per year in United States. According to professor, due to use of new types of crops, the use of land for agriculture has decreased because these new crops yields more per unit area than the past used crops.

Third, the article maintains that the use of pesticides may have an adverse effect on birds. The professor counter this points explaining that the 2 new approaches have been used to tackle with this problem. We have learned that now, there is a use of less toxic pesticide and new kind of crops- genetically modified pesticide resistance crops. And this new crops will decrease the use of pesticide; thus, now, birds are free from the peril of pesticide toxic effect.
