TPO-20 - Integrated Writing Task
The reading and lecture are both about a policy is named "let it burn". The article states that because of dangerous affect people wants to abolish this policy and provides three reasons for support. However, the professor explains that actually, this is a good part of the ecological cycle. Even though, sometimes it accrues in large scales and refutes each of the author reasons.
First, the article mentions that Yellowstone fires caused damage to vegetation and at the end one-third of the land had been scorched. The professor counters this by saying this fire made space for smaller plants that need more area to grow and also for seeds that appear because of heat.
Second, the article claims that the park wildlife was affected as well, the bigger animals were fleeing the fire but the small ones couldn't scape so it caused the food chains destroyed. However, the lecturer contends that the fire recovered new opportunity for the other small animals like rabbits to spread and made the food chain for predators.
Moreover, it is stated in the article that the fire had negative consequences for the local economy because fewer tourists come to visit the park. In contrast, the professor believes there are a lot of reasons that caused fewer tourists such as low rain and humiliation. The tourists came back the next year and the years after.
