The article states three disadvantages of let it burn policy which deal with wildfire, after Yellowstone wildfire. However, the professor refutes all claims made by the author. She says that this fire had a creative role on ecological system not only destructive.
First of all, the author of the reading claims that Yellowstone fire caused tremendous damage to most of park's tree and vegetation, as the tree were blackened from the flames, and smaller plants were all incinerated. Conversely, the lecturer states that the fire has created new opportunity for colonization of new plant which led to diversity in park's plant. For instance, certain plant could not germinate unless they exposed to high heat level.
The second disadvantage is that the fire affected animals because it caused destruction of the habitat and disruption of food. On contrary, the professor challenges by saying that the fire create new opportunity. For example, the new smaller plants that replaced burned tree, had created new habitat to small animals like rabbits and hares. These animals attracted predators looking for food, which positively affected the food cycle.
Finally, last disadvantage the author of the reading states is this fire negatively affected local economy because the tourist season cut short, and most businesses that depended on tourists suffered. The lecturer, on the other hand, points out that the fire could affect local economy if it happened every year. She says that there was many reasons that made the fire so massive like, low rainfall season and strong wind, which did not happen again. Visitors came back to the park next year and each year
