In this set of given material, the reading states that the copper cylinders that are found at the railway construction
site weren't use as batteries. On the other hand the listening material mentions that, the theories presented in the text are unconvincing. The lecturer provides certain arguments to back up his assumption.
First of all, the author argues that the copper cylinders found at the construction sight are with just metal rods in it. There is no evidence of any wires attached to the metal rods; so that it can be used as batteries. Also, they didn't find any wires in the dig during excavation However, the lecturer asserts that, the excavation was done by the local people during the construction of rail road. There weren't any trained archeologists consulted for this excavation. Thus, many important evidences such as wires might have been overlooked by the people.
Second, the passage suggests that, similar copper cylinders were found in the nearby excavation sight suggests that such cylinders were used to carry sacred texts, so these cylinders found at this construction site might have also been used for similar purpose. On the contrary the speaker posits that, although they were used as a storage for sacred text they might have discovered the another purpose of this
cylinder as batteries.
Finally, the it is mentioned in the writing that ancient people didn't have any device at that time; that can be operated with the use of batteries. The orator casts doubt on this above argument and states that, there are evidence that in ancient era the small battery current might have been used for healing purposes, similar to the modern medicine where electric currents are used by doctors to heal aches and pain.
To sum up, the lecturer disagrees with all the points made in passage and promotes that the cylinders found at excavation site have more purpose as device for generating current for treatment than just the storage of spiritual documents.
