The reading provides three reasons to explain the factors which created the little ice age. However, the lecturer finds all the ideas out of date and provides some reasons to refute them all.
First the author argues that unusually warming weather cause to melt the glaciers which in turn results in to the disturbing the Gulf Stream and reducing the overall world`s temperature. Conversely, the lecturer casts doubt on this idea by stating that disturbing the Golf Stream currents can just reduce the temperature of European countries. However, little ice age effected the lower part of the world such as South Africa and News land. So, this theory cannot explain the little ice age.
Furthermore, the reading passage holds the view that dark clouds which were created by volcanic eruption could produce the little ice age. On the contrary, the professor underlines the fact that huge volcanic eruptions produce visual effects. For instant, they can cause colorful clouds or gray snows. But, such a phenomenon did not reported on that time. So, the volcanic eruption was simply did not strong enough to produce little ice age.
Finally, the reading asserts that reducing the human population provided an opportunity for forests to thrive very well and decrease the amount of greenhouse gases, so, the earth become much cooler. In contrast, the speaker dismisses this issue due to the fact that forests did not have the enough time to produce this ice age. He argues that although the human population reduced in that time, but the population increased fairly quickly after that. As the result, human started to cut down the trees and destroy forest again. So, the forest effect was not long enough to cause this phenomenon.
