TPO 27 - Integrated Writing Task
According to the passage, three causes explaining the origin of the Little Ice Age are presented. In contrast, the lecturer opposes to these three explanations, saying they are outdated. Now, researchers have found new information about what initiate the event.
First of all, it is thought to be truth that the disrupting of oceans, current to be specific, led to the catastrophic age. Whereas, the professor rejects it, providing convincing alternative. She says that the ocean current in that particular gulf would just affect some places in Europe and North America, while actually the area of New Zealand as well as Africa were all influenced where the spread of current might never reach. As a result, this theory cannot account for the event.
On top of that, dark cloud of dusts erupted by volcanos which can darken the sky and prevent sunlight from coming in is regarded as one of the explanations. Nevertheless, the women in the lecture holds a contradictory viewpoint. She believes that this cause might also had some others visual effects like the greyish snow and so on which might have been documented by human beings. Record of that, however, does not exist.
Thirdly, as the result of the decreasing population of humans, trees spread into areas where humans used to live, which had a consequence of absorbing more carbon dioxide which is used to keep the Earth warm. Nonetheless, the professor disagrees with it. She puts forth that the limited time period of the decline of humans’ population might not provided trees with enough time to absorb such amount of carbon dioxide that the Earth got warm. Humans thrived again just after a short period of declining population.
