TPO 28- integrated writing - Peary's trip to the North Pole

In the reading, the author claims that there are three legitimate logics approve indeed Robert E. Peary – who was an illustrious explorer - did manage to get to the North Pole. However, finding all the ideas questionable and implausible, the lecturer thoroughly casts doubts on what is claimed in the text and present some evidence to the contrary.
At first, the author argues that a committee – including members of National geography Society - has substantiated that Robert E. Peary actually reached the North Pole by inspecting the Peary's records. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that although the committee approve this statement, there are two crucial points that should be taken into account. The first issue is that the committee was not impartial since not only had funded the committee the expenditure of the Peary's journey but also they were Peary's close friends. Another noticeable matter is that all the process took merely 2 days, undoubtedly they could not have precisely perused such a brief, cursory probe. Therefore, the committee's comment is not dependable.
In addition, the reading passage holds the view that it was practicable for Peary to go to the North Pole in only 37 days since Tom Avery succeeded to do the same trip with similar facilities. On the other hand, the lecturer disputes the points by clarifying the fact that regardless of the same equipment, the circumstances entirely differentiate between the Peary's trip and Avery's Journey. Although both of sleds were alike, the weight of the load carrying on by them were varied. As a matter of fact, Avery did not have as much heavy a load as Peary because the Avery's food was dropped off by the airplane. Besides, so agreeable was the weather temperature in the Avery's trip that it could distinguish his journey from the Peary's trike facing harsh climate. Thus, Peary's could not have reached the North Pole in such a short time.
Finally, the author asserts the Peary's photographs from the North Pole validated his spot by calculating the shadows and thereby the position of the sun in that region. The lecturer though, dismisses it by pointing out that not only the Peary's rudimentary camera did not take the pictures with decent quality but also the shadows become faded by passing the time. Moreover, the fuzzy weather deteriorated the photos and had adverse effect on them. Therefore, these pictures cannot be considered as a reliable source to find the sun's position and affirm that they were taken in the North Pole.
