The author provides three reasons to show that Edmontosaurus's found in Alaska's North Slope were migrating south to survive during winter. The professor, however, explains that the reasons provided are not convincing and refutes each reason.
First, the author states that Edmontosaurus vegetarian diet supports his claim because there was no vegetation in North Slope during winter. The professor dismissed this claim by recalling us that in their period the weather was warmer than today and there was a good plant life during summer. So, in winter this creature can nourish on dead plant and hence there was adequate food in winter for them.
Second, the author said that scientist found many skeletons in the same excavation site which shows Edmontosaurus lived in a herd and since migratory animals live and migrate in a herd, Edmontosaurus were also migratory animals. Although the professor accepts that Edmontosaurus live in a herd, she refutes author's claim. She explains that there are several other reasons for Edmontosaurus to live in a herd like providing extra protection. In addition, she gives Rosevelt elk as an example that lives in a herd but does not migrate.
Third, the author explains that Edmontosaurus were capable of migrating long distances. However, the professor disagreed because she believes that the juvenile Edmontosaurus were not able to migrate in such a long distance and the adults could not leave their child behind. As a result, all Edmontosaurs should stay in Alaska's North Slope during winter.
