In this set of materials, the reading states that a lot of dinosaur fossils have been discovered in North Slop, and North Slop has an extremely cold climate. It is controversial about why Edmontosaurus migrate to the North slop; hence, the reading brings several theories about reasons for the migration of these animals to the North Pole. On the other hand, the listening section brings into question the reading by providing different reasons (and examples).
First and foremost, the reading indicates that Edmontosaurus would migrate to finding food; in contrast, the lecturer opposes this view by mentioning that Edmontosaurus did not have to migrate to finding food. She explains that 100 million years ago winter was warmer than today, and sunshine receives to the Earth 24 hours a day. So, it created an incredible condition for growing plants. A lot of plants were growing in the summer. Hence, during winter, Edmontosaurus would eat dead plants that have a lot of nutrition. So, they did not migrate to finding food.
Furthermore, the reading argues that Edmontosaurus lived in herds because they wanted to migrate; conversely, what the lecturer state is different. She points out that living in herds does not mean they migrate. They lived in herds for other purposes such as extra protection from predators. Also, living in herds has benefits for other animals living near herds. For example, elk lives in herds at a forest in united state. But, they do not migrate at all. So, this is not the correct reasons for migrating Edmontosaurus.
Finally, according to the reading, Edmontosaurus had physical ability to migrate, because they would run fast, reaching speed up to 45 kilometers per hours. However, the lecturer believes that they had reached a high speed without their offspring. Juveniles did not have physical ability for running fast as the same as adults. So, they reduced the speed of the herds for reaching to warmer territories. Also, their parents did not live their offspring, because they did not live alone. Hence, this reason is not correct.
