The reading and lecture are about whether edmontosaurus migrated to the south during winter. The reading states three explanations that occasioned hypothesis that dinosaurs migrated. The lecturer is the opinion of these interpretations are faulty.
To start with, the author mentions that the herbivore dinosaurs are not able to survive winter because they will face food shortage since vegetations are not able to grow in winter condition. This specific argument is challenged by the lecturer. She mentions that region of the north slope was warmer and being exposed to sun for whole day, so this situation satisfied growth of floras in the north. Moreover, although plants die in winter, nutritious material of the plant on which the dinosaurs can feed will be left.
Secondly, according to the reading, it is proved that edmontosaur was living in flock, which posits that this species can migrate by group. Nonetheless, the lecturer refutes this by mentioning living in herd has another purposes such as further protection. For instance, elks mentioned in the lecture live as flock in forest and do not relocate. For this reason, evidence that the species were living as group cannot provide solid evidence about the case.
Finally, the author claims that this animal is available to relocate to the place which is around 1600 kilometers away since speed of the adult edmontosaur is enough for this particular purpose. On the other hand, the lecturer states that young dinosaurs are not available to travel for large distance with great speed. Thereby, if they had lived as crew, they would have slowed down due to young members since juveniles were not likely to be left behind since they were not capable of surviving without support of elder members of herd.
