The reading passage and lecture have conflicting opinions on whether or not edmontosaur dinosaurs migrated to another area to escape from the unfavourable weather condition. The article strongly postulates that there are three explanations which support this statement. On the other hand, the listening adamantly delineates that none of the author's explanations is plausible.
First and foremost, according to the professor, there was no need to migrate for these animals because at that time the climate was much warmer than today. Furthermore, she said that in North Slope reached peak temperature in the summer, so there were plenty of favourable conditions for vegetation to grow. To be more specific, especially in the wintertime, most of the dead plants still contained nutrition for essential to edmontosaur's survival. Nonetheless, the author offsets these points by declaring that these dinosaurs mostly fed on plants which became scarce in the winter, thus this condition led them to seek for another habitat.
On top of this, the lecturer further asserts that there were plenty of reasons why they lived in the horde. For instance, it might have used as extra protection from predators and other dangers even the same for other animals which lived near them. These claims refute the writer's indications about these dinosaurs' many relics were found from the same area, so it might illustrate that they lived in the flock. In addition to this, moving in herds allowed them to navigate their journey.
Lastly, the speaker in the lecture suggests that there were also juvenile dinosaurs in their swarm. it means that the migration was impossible for them because the young edmontosaurs had not adapted to run such long distances. Nevertheless, the author counters these implications by insisting that they were physically capable to run fast during this migration even in the cold weather.
