The reading asserts that one of paintings from Rembrandt who was the most famous dutch painter was removed from the official catalog of his paintings because it could not be a work by rembrandt. The lecture, however, finds the idea dubious and casts doubt on the reasons proposed by the reading passage.
The author argues that There is something inconsistent about the woman's dress in the portrait. Conversely, the lecture brings up the idea that some pigments were added over 100 years after original painting since someone wants to manipulated the original one.
Furthermore, the reading passage holds the view that Rembrandt's paintings are famous because of special attention to light and shadow to painting. On the contrary the professor underlines the fact that, after cleaning the extra pigments which were added, the original painting indicate realistic light and shadow which makes sense.
Finally,it is stated in the reading that, the painting panel comprises several pieces of wood glued together, but rambrandt never use several pieces of wood glued together for panel of his paintings. In contrast, the speaker dismisses this issue due to the fact that, someone do this to made the painting more grand. In addition, the original single wood is as same tree as other Rembrandt's painting.
