Bothe the lecture and the passage is about that whether Sinaosauropteryx had feathers. The reading asserts that Sinaosauropteryx was not a feathered dinosaur by peresenting tree reasons. In the opposition, the professor cast doubt on every single evidence mentioned by passage.
First, the writer implies that line in the fossil is a result of animal skin decomposition. After death of animal, their skin decomposed into fibers preserving as line in the fossil. Conversely, the professor states that the others animal fossil did not decompose. Therefor, it dose not like that the line is form decomposition.
Second, the reading points out that line is remains of frills which was a part of dinosaurs body. In the contrast, the lecturer expresses that the chemical composition of of frill and feather is different. Frill has a special kind of protein that feather dose not have. In addition the evidence indicates that the lines dose not contain that protein, thus, they are not remains of frill.
finally, the passage mentions that feather has two obvious function, keep the body warm and make flight possible. As, these two function does not seem to be useful for Sinaosauropteryx, they does not need feather. On the other hand, the professor refuses this claim by explaining that feathers can have some other role. For example, there are some kind of birds which use their feather to attract male. Also, the evidence shows that the dinosaur feather was colorful and they could have the same role as that kind of birds feathers have.
