Tpo 31 task1
The reading claims that the fine line pattern in the fossil skeleton of dinosaur-Sinosauropteryx -which is preserved in volcanic ash represents the fact that dinosaurs had feathers. However, the lecture finds all the idea implausible and present some evidence to refute them.
First, The author argues that fine lines do not representative of functional structure. On the contrary, they allude to animal skin converted into a fiber after their death and preserve in fossils. Conversely, the professor highlights the fact that this skin fiber pattern do not see in any other animals in the same location that preserved in volcanic ash.
Second, the reading holds the view that it is difficult to determine which part of the dinosaur body preserved and it assumes it is more possible for to frills become remnant in volcanic ash in comparison to feathers. In contrast, the lecture dismisses the point due to the fact that there are chemical differences between frail and feathers. In fact, feathers contain protein such as beta carotene which analysis of the fossil reveals the fine line is comprising beta carotene too.
Finally, the passage asserts that despite the functional rule of the feather in other animals that help them to fly or body temperature regulation. In the Sinosauropteryx fossil, structures located in the tail indicate that structure is useless as a feather. Conversely, the speaker brings up an example of an animal whose feather has extra function rather than thermoregulation or flying, picklock which its feather has a display function. Accordingly, the analysis reveals that orange and white dinosaur feathers also have a display function.
