Both the reading and the listening discuss the theories of the "quicker" sound heard in the North Atlantic and Arctic Ocean. The author of the passage provides three plausible theories to explain the strange sound. However, the professor refutes all of the claims made in the article, and her reasons are as follows.
To start with, the passage points out that male and female orca whales make this weird noise during courtship ritual. Nevertheless, the lecturer challenges the points by mentions that whales are habitating on the surface ocean and it's unlikely to hear their voice in the deep water. Besides, their sound can be detected by sonar, so the sounds of whales are not the convincing reason.
Second, the reading contends that those sounds might be made by giant squids, a kind of invertebrates. Nevertheless, the professor argues that researchers had already found the sounds of giant squid in 1960. However, their sounds disappeared in 1980. Consequently, It's no reason that they stopped the sound for decades and restarted after 20 years.
Last, the article states that it's possible that the sounds come from other country's submarines. Conversely, the professor maintains that the submarine can't change direction and movie so quickly. Besides, the current technology is not advanced enough to establish a fast and silent engine. Therefore, it's impossible that the voice is from the other country's submarine.
In sum, the professor successfully casts doubts on all of the claims presented in the article.
