First, the passage declares that the sounds were actually the calls of male and female orca wales during a counters ritual. The speaker refutes this remark by pointing out the fact that these whales are inhabitant near the surface of the ocean but the sounds were heard deep in the ocean. In addition to this, if the whales were the source of the noise, they should have been detected by the submarines' sonar.
Second, the passage asserts that the sounds might be caused by giant suid due to the fact that they live deep in the ocean and they are hard to detect by the sonar, this idea is strongly supported. On the other hand, the lecture states that although it is possible to consider these giants as the origin of the sounds. Nevertheless, according to the fact that the sounds have been disappeared despite the existence of this creatures, this cannot consider as a convincing idea. In addition, these creatures had been there before the sounds were heard by the sailors.
Finally, the author claims that these sounds could be generated from a foreign submarine. In contradict to this, the speaker argues that based on the observation, those sounds moved around and changed direction so fast that even these days technology cannot lead to construct a submarine which can move around and change the direction that fast and she concludes that is not possible.
