TPO 43

In this set of materials, the reading passage discusses Agnostid fossils found in rocks were similar to modern insects. However the lecturer cast doubt on informations present in passages and refutes them all.
Firstly, the author of the passage mentions Agnostids were free-swimming predators. In contrast, the professor opposes this point by saying that free-swimming species have well developed eye and vision ability, while Agnostids had poor eyesight and some of them totally blind. Thus, these kind of species could not free-swimming predators.
Secondly, the reading asserts that Agnostids lived on seafloor such as many promitive arthopods and ate from dead organism. On the other hand, the lecturer rebutes this point and says that see-floor species are not fast and do not travel far away, they are local organism. Meanwhile, Agnostids found in large distance and spread throughly. Hence, this is not logical they were seafloor dwellers.
Finally, the reading passage mentions Agnostids were parasites and lived inside of host animal and ate from them. The lecture refutes this point and says that the number of parasites are limited because too much parasites inside host eventually kill the host. While, the large number of Agnostids were found and this means that they were not parasites.
