In the lecture, the professor discusses why none of the three theories mentioned in the passage on the Norse coin are convincing.
To begin with, the reading claims that the location where the coin was discovered is distant to known Norse settlements in North America, so it is unlikely to have been belonged to the Norse. However, the speaker refutes this by saying that Native Americans might encountered the Norse during their migrations, and carried those coins with them for long distances to Maine.
Next, whilst the second hypothesis in the passage states that the coin is fake because no other coins have been found at Norse settlements in Canada, which indicates that the Norse did not travel with coins, the lecturer points out that since the Norse did not establish permanent settlements in North America, they must have taken all the treasured belongings like coins away with them when they sailed back to Europe.
Finally, although Native Americans did not use coins as money at that time, as the instructor asserts, attracted by these unusual and delicate objects, they might still wanted to own them by exchanging much needed things with the Norse, rejecting the argument in the reading material that native North Americans were not interested in silver coins.
