tpo 45 bees nests

Essay topics:

tpo 45 bees nests

The reading passage claims that many skeptics doubt that structures, which have been found inside 200-million-year old fossilized trees, were created by bees. However, the professor casts doubt on each point made by the author and she says that it is true that the fossilized structures were created by bees and all of the skeptical points are not convincing.

First of all, the article says that there are no fossils which have been found that date to 200 million years ago. The author mentions the earliest preserved body of a bee is 100 million years old as fossilized structures. On the other hand, the professor states that it is true that there are no fossils of bees that date to 200 years ago; however, fossilized bees were not preserved. She says that bees are usually preserved in a sticky substance called resin made by trees and these trees were rare 200 million years ago. She mentions these trees become common later. So, that does not mean that the bees did not exist 200 million years ago, but they were not preserved.

Second, the reading passage asserts that bees feed almost exclusively on flowers, so the absence of flowering plants 200 million years ago raises another reason to doubt that bees existed in that period. This point is contradicted by the professor. She states that it is true that there is a correlation between flowering plants and bees. However, bees existed before flowering plants evolved and early bees were feeding on non-flowering plants. Then, flowering plants evolved so bees became adapted to them later. As a result, the relationship between flowering plants and bees became stable.

Finally, the article says that the fossilized structure has a similar structure to the chambers made by modern bees. Modern bees have chambers with a spiral caps, but the fossil doesn’t have those caps. On the other hand, the speaker claims that although the chambers lack caps, there is evidence that the chambers were built by bees. She says modern bees use special water-proofing to protect their nest chambers. The fossilized chambers were chemically analyzed. The result of analyzing the fossilized chambers was the water-proofing substances were similar to modern bees.
