The reading is about possibility of bee’s existence since 200 million years ago. It states provided three reasons of support about skeptical doubts over nests found inside the fossilized trees were not created by bees. In the lecture, the professor holds a totally different views that it is possible for bees to be exist such a long time and point to inaccuracies to each of the author's reasons.
First of all, the article claims that age of oldest founded fossil of bee is just about 100 million years ago. The professor refutes this point by saying also it’s true that there is not a 200 million years aged fossil of bees, it doesn’t mean that bees didn’t exist at that time. She says since there were almost no trees producing the right kind of resin, a sticky liquid produced by trees, the bees could not be preserved.
Secondly, the reading posits that there were not flowering plants 200 million years ago. On the other hand, the professor explain that relation between bees and flowers might be different in that period. As she says, bees in that time could feed on none flowering plants. After a while, as flowering plants evolved, bees adopted to feed on them and the relation between them have remained constant ever sense.
Thirdly, the article asserts that fossilized structures founded lacks some details such as caps. However, the professor says that there is chemical evidence that support the resemblance of founded fossil and modern bees. She explains that by the analysis of fossils, it turned out that they contain the same kind of waterproofing material that’s used by modern bees.
