The article states that skeptics doubt that structures like nest that found near Arizona were created by bees and provides three reasons of support. Conversely, the professor states that the structures that have discovered perfectely possible were bees nests about 200 million years ago. She refutes each of the author’s reasons.
First, the reading claims that no fossils remains of actual bees that dated about 200 millions years ago have ever found. The porfessor says that its true, but the reason why no actual fossils found because its not preserved. SHe explains that bees fossils are preserved by trees raisins. This raisin was very rare 200 million years ago and it came later. And so, this fact of not finding any fossils belong to that era does not mean these nests were not built by bees. The professor concludes that bees existed 200 millions years ago, but their fossils did not preserved due to the lack of raisin.
Second, the article claims that absences of flowering plants in that period highly doubt the exisitence of bees, since both of them use to be close to each other. However, the professor refutes this point by saying that this close relationship can be seen today. But, it would not be 200 million years ago. The professor states that before the evloutionary period, bees could be feeding on non flowering plants, such as fern, pine trees. After that, they adopted other plants for feeding when the evalotution happened. Therefore, the professor emphasizes that bees could be existed before flowering plants; and as a result they created those structures.
Third, the reading posits that the fossilized chambers for those sturctures lack caps that silimlarily made by modern bees which could explains they not built by bees. On the other hand, the professor states that even though they lack spiral, those structures have fossilized chemicals composition as they modern bees have. She explains that modern bees use a water- proof chemical substance which helps them from water. And so, this disictive chemcial substance have been found in fossilized structures. And this means. those sturctures that have been discovered is clearly idenicated that bees built them.
