The reading and the lecture are both arguing about storing patients' medical records in electronic databases has several advantages over traditional paper-based record keeping. The author of the reading believes that the electronic databases are more significant that the paper data records. The lecturer casts doubt on the claims made by the article. She thinks that electronic records are less significant than paper data.
First, the author claims that the electronic database system is can save a lot of money since, unlike the paper database, there is not needed for any space to save the data. This point is challenged by the lecturer. She says that doctors still saving the paper database even when they insert all the information in the computers for emergency pack up, so they still need space to save the paper form which means there is no reducing in the cost.
A second controversial issue is that the author argues that the electric database can reduce the error in the system. This argument is rebutted by the lecturer. She suggests that doctors still using the pen a paper to take the information for the patients. He elaborates on this by mentioning that stuff that enters the information to the system, so poor handwriting or even disability to read doctors' handwriting still lead to some errors in the system
Finally, the author mentions that the electronic database might be helping a medical researcher to get the data so easily and so fast. The lecturer, on the other hand, feels that is totally wrong. She puts forth the idea that it is still so difficult to access the system due to the privacy law in the USA. Furthermore, she says that anyone wants to access the data have to follow restricted and complicated procedures and a lot of permissions.
