The passage state that the humpback whale uses stars to aid for locomotion in search of feeding and mating. However, the lecture presents several opinions which cast doubt on the reading.
Firstly the reading state that, the humpback whales are very intelligent to depend on the stars for guidance. The passage claims that their brain are highly develop to enable them to use stars for orientation. The lecture is in contradiction with the passage. According to the saying of the professor, the fact of being intelligent doesn't have any connection with the ability to use stars. The lecture state that other animals still use stars for orientation but that it is just instinct. It has nothing to do with intelligence. The point made by the lecture cast doubt on the the reading because according to the lecture, intelligence has no connection with the act of using stars.
Also the passage claims that humpback whales move from place to place in straight line and that it is only possible to do this if they are directed by external objects. The reading argues that the whales can't rely on land features for orientation but instead of stars to provide external signs. This is completely different from the saying of the lecture which state that the whales are very sensitive to field. They depend on magnetic field for orientation. The difference in explanation made by the lecture cast doubt on the reading.
Finally the reading state that the whales are often seen floating on water with their head straight. According, to the reading apparently this movement of the whales is due to the fact that they depend on stars and keep watching them for migration. However the lecturer gives a different point of view to explain that. The professor state that these are just shocks and it is only speculation. So this point made by the lecture about speculation is in contradiction to the reading which state that the whales depend on stars.
In conclusion, according to the lecture, intelligence, moving on a straight line and floating on water with the head out of water has nothing to deal with the fact of using stars for locomotion. So for all the above reasons, the points made by the lecture cast doubt on the reading.
