Both the passage and the audio are talking about the migration of humpback whales and the way they use to find their far destinatin . The passage claims that the stars guide the wales to their destination during their long way delving into three reasons. In the contrary, the lecturer in the audio refutes every reason mentioned in the passage.
First,The author of the passage claims that humpback whales are navigating by the stars using their intellegence. Wherase, the lecturer cast doubt on that because alot of animals which not known as smart species like birds and dogs migrate navigating by stars as a natural ability born with them and the intellegence for sure do not play any role in that.
Second, the passage asserts that humpback whales migrate in straight lines and because of the absence of their ability to mark features in the open ocean ,they orient themselves by external objects relying on the stars. However, the lecturer refutes that idea because the animals which migrates in a straight line are usually affected by the biomagnetic field which is the earth magnatic filed. And that filed affects the whales and makes them orienting by themselves.
Third, the spy-hopping, a behavor observed in humpback whales, is a method they use to be able to look to the stars to be navigate by them according to the passage. Seems completely unconviencing according to the lecturer because the whales usually do spy-hopping not only at night when the stars shine, but also during the morning when there is no star.
