In this set of material, both the author of the reading passage and the lecturer are discussing elephant behaviors. Although the author declares that the elephants have abnormal behaviors, the professor casts doubt about the author's claims. She believes it results from misunderstanding of their behaviors. In what follows, the reasons for both the author of the reading and the lecturer will be substantiated.
Firstly, both the reading and talk have a debate on elephants awareness of their death time. According to the passage, it is said that they know end of their life when they become weak and old. So, this cause they cut their connection from herds and become alone near the water supplies. On the other hand, the professor states that it causes by elephants' old teeth. They look for soft vegetation that grow near water supplies, and after a few moments, they will die there.
Secondly, the author and the lecturer express their opinion about elephants' painting skill. The author acclaims that they can paint with their trunks on a canvas. In contrast, the professor proclaims that ears of elephants are sensitive as well as human ears to remember and follow the sounds like sound of brush on canvas. Therefore, they can paint line instead of flowers.
Finally, the author announces that elephants have a scarce of mice. But, the professor says, some scientists consider their reaction on mice. They react due to see unfamiliar animal that is not in the zoo.
In conclusion, both the author and the lecturer are giving their opinion about the elephants behavior that is in contrast with each other.
