TPO11 integrated writing.
Both, the reading and the lecture, talk about a recent research’s outcomes which show that people are reading fewer books than in the past decades. however, they have counter opinions. While the reading affirms that is a real problem, specially among youngsters, the lecturer explains that the facts are not as the writer says and refute each reasons presented, casting doubts in the author’s beliefs.
Firstly, the reading points out that exist a clear reduction in the book reading, but it is marker in literature books. Notwithstanding, the lecturer disproves this saying that literature books are not the only ones capable to provide intellectual growing to the readers. There are others like sciences, history or political analysis which could do it as well. Furthermore, the professor affirm that those books could be as creative as literature books.
Secondly, the test argues that the lost of literature books fan is not the only issue, but what kind of books is replacing them. He says that the best sellers list is full of self-help books, which are commonly trivial, have low quality and do not touch profound or complex topics. Nonetheless, the professor mentions that this fact do not mean a declining in the people culture, but a change in their preferences to something more modern like movies or music.
Finally, the writer remarks that this phenomenon is happening in a period where exist an abundance of good writers available in the market. however, the lecturer says that the authors have an important part of the blame in the people’s lack of interest, owing to the difficulty of the topic touched, which are complicated to assimilate and wake up low interest in the public.
