The article states that because of the increase in the world population which is occurring nowadays, the number of birds will increasingly decline and provides three reasons for support. On the other hand, the professor argues that the reasons which the passage claims are not convincing and refutes each reason.
To commence with, the reading avers that as human populations and settlements continue to expand, birds' habitats will continue to disappear. However, the lecturer contradicts that human settlement is harmful to some types of birds but not for all of them. On the contrary, urban life provides better and larger habitats for birds. As a result, some people in the cities are complaining about the increase in some kinds of birds' population. As you can see, the story of urban life and birds' habitats won't result in a uniform decline of birds' population.
Second, the article expresses that agricultural activities must increase to keep pace with the growing human population. Hence, keeping this pace will result in further destruction of bird habitats. Nevertheless, the professor refutes this point by stating that although the agricultural activities should increase, it won't affect the birds' habitats as it is assumed in the article. In favor of technology, humankind has introduced many new agricultural methods that will help people to cultivate more crops in smaller lands and it will harm the birds less and less in the future.
At last, the author claims that increasing the agricultural activities will lead to use more ofchemical pesticides. Nonetheless, the lecture opposes this point by declaring that the two major changes have occurred in the use of pesticides. First, people are using pesticides that have less toxic matters and also they are using pest resisting crops that don't harm birds at all.
