TPO21- Question : Summarise the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they case doubt on specific points made in the reading passage.
In the reading passage, the author claims that are three possible explanations for planting genetically modified trees. However, finding all the ideas implausible and questionable, the professor casts doubt on what is presented in text and states some evidence to the contrary.
To begin with, the writing suggests that genetically modified trees are more resistant than natural trees. This specific argument is challenged by the lecture. She points out that natural trees are able to adapt to some changes in the weather and some bugs. Also, she mentions that genetic modified trees have a uniform gene. As a result, these trees will not support changes in their environment.
Secondly, the author argues that modified trees promise to bring a number of economic benefits to those who grow them. In contrast, the lecture holds the opposite view. She says that these trees have a high price, because the companies charged the coast of the developing technologies. Moreover, those people who grow modified trees need to pay a tax for each plantation.
Finally, the reading feels that genetically modified trees can prevent overexploitation of wild trees. But, the lecture rebuts this argument by saying that these trees generate more damage for the environmental than the natural trees. Furthermore, she posits that genetically modified trees grow more aggressively and competing for sources, such as water with natural trees.
