The reading and the lecture are about the possible condition of life on Venus. The reading provides three reasons that because of the inappropriate circumstance of Venus, this idea will not be practical and then supports them. The lecture casts doubt on the claims made in the article. The professor finds all arguments dubious.

First of all, the author of reading declares that Venus has a danger surface due to an unusual high pressure; consequently, Venus's surface can crush any spacecraft as well as humans. This point is challenged by the lecturer. He contends that this problem can be solved if we construct a station higher than Venus's surface. There will be a safe position as much as 50 meters above of surface. In such a distance, the pressure is equal with Earth's pressure; as a result, human beings can take advantage of this.

Secondly, the article claims that Venus's atmosphere is not adequate for providing life because it seldom includes oxygen and unfortunately it has a lot of carbon dioxide, nitrogen and sulfuric acid. Meanwhile it lacks of water source; subsequently, carrying of water and oxygen from Earth are impossible. This argument is rebutted by the professor. He points out that we do not need to carry these materials to Venus. Researchers would make oxygen and water through a chemical reaction between carbon dioxide, nitrogen and sulfuric acid simply.

Finally, the reading passages states that since Venus has thick clouds, so the huge amount of sunlight would be reflected to space by the clouds; hence, the idea of life on Venus without sun and its heat can be ridiculous. On the other hand, the lecturer suggests that the clouds that are located higher than surface are not much thick, so that aforementioned station will be able to save the sun's heat and also this station can collect the reflected radiations from below and high for generating electricity.
