In the reading passage, the author mentions three possible reasons proving that it is impossible to keep a human habitat on Venus. The conclusion seems plausible at first glance but is actually contradicted by the following lecture. The lecturer points out a solution of establishing the habitat 50 kilometers above the surface of the Venus, which doesn't exist those three relative issues.
In the first place, the writer worries about the extremely high atmospheric pressure at Venus' surface, which could crush almost anything artificial. However, the speaking material contends that the atmospheric pressure will decrease as the elevation rises and hence, by means of the solution, people on the habitat will be around with the similar pressure as on the earth’s surface.
On top of that, the reading material states that there is no available water or oxygen on the surface or in the atmosphere of Venus to sustain the residence. By contrast, this barrier could also be eliminated when at 50 kilometers above the surface, as the speaker says. The human can acquire water and oxygen from the carbon dioxide and sulfuric acid in the atmosphere by chemical reaction at the station. There is no requirement to import these essential materials from earth.
At last, the author contends that scarce sunlight could reach the surface and utilized by people to require electricity. But the lecturer's proposition could address this problem. Because the clouds above the station will be not so thick that the station could receive ample sunlight to generate electricity. At the same time, we could exploit the reflected sunlight from clouds below as well.
All in all, if the author couldn't provide evidences to challenge the suggestion, the argument will be definitely flawed.
