The reading argues that the building`s glasses cause millions of birds to get injury. Moreover, it provides three possible solutions to reduce the destructive effects of glasses which are utilized at the buildings. However, the lecturer finds all the ideas dubious and present some evidence to refute them all.
First, the reading claims that the one way glass which is transparent just in one side can reduce the bird’s` injury. Conversely, the lecturer casts doubt on this idea by stating that One-way glass acts as a mirror and it is harmful for the birds because if they see the picture of something in it they move toward it. For, instance, if they see the picture of a tree in the glass, they think it is a real tree and they may fly toward it.
Furthermore, the reading passage holds the idea that creating colorful lines on the windows can provide an opportunity to reduce this detrimental effect. In contrast, the professor underlines the fact that the birds might consider the unpainted sections as an open hole and again move toward it. He also argues that it could be a prominent solution if people decreases the unpainted are of the glass. But, this cause to reduce the amount of lights which can go inside the building, so, it is not a practical solution.
Finally, the reading asserts that an artificial magnetic field can assists birds to adjust their directions. on the contrary, the speaker dismisses this issue due to the fact that birds use magnetic field to navigate in the very long distances and they do not use it for the short distance an or path. For example, they utilized these method for finding their locations when the want to migrate from one place to other places. But, in the short distances such as when they are flying in the cities, they just use their eyes and the sun`s light for navigations.
