TPO42-Integrated writing
The reading asserts that we can apply three solutions for preventing birds to be injured by flying through the glasses of windows. The lecturer, however, finds these ideas dubious and casts doubt on the rationals mentioned by the reading passage.
First of all, the author of the reading argues that we can use one-way glasses which are transparet in one direction instead of the regulate glasses. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that these glasses act like a mirror; as a conseqence, these glasses reflect the picture of sky or trees. Therefore, birds think that they can pass from these glasses and would be injured.
Furethermore, the writer of the reading holds the view that we can use from colorful designs such as colorful lines or thin stripes painted over the glass. On the contrary, the professor underlines the issue that this strips or design would create a clear hole in the middle for viewing the outside. Hence, birds strive to fly through these holes and would be injured again. Besides, if glass producers make these holes very small, inside of the houses would be too dark.
Finally, the reading passage mentioned that since birds use magnetic field of earth for direction, we can produce an artificial magnetic field for directing the birds away from buildings. In contrast the speaker dismisses this idea due to the fact that birds use magnetic fields just for direction in the long distances. For instance, when birds want to go from a cold country to a warm one, they use the earth magnetic field. Also, he continue that, when birds want to go to a short distance, they only use from their eyes and light of the sun.
