TPO54 salt level
The main idea of the reading and the lecture is both about reducing amount of the salt from lakes. The author of the reading feels that there are several ways to reverse the condition to clear salt from water. The lecturer,on the other hand, utterly challenges claims made by the author. He is of opinion that it is important to reduce the salt from lake to save fish and birds life, but this methods aren't realistic and practical.
To begin with,The author argues that one way is to fill the lake water in desalination facilities and then evaporate it,then salt and water will be separated,so we can cool the steam down and return the water to lake. This specific argument is challenged by the lecturer. He claims that if we evaporate water, the salt remain in facility and we can fetch the water into lake again, but this method poses some problem.By doing that some material remain in water dissolved.if we bring the water back into lake, wind can distribute this harmful chemical material to air,so by breathing air people’s health get damaged.
Secondly, the writer suggests that dilute the the level of the salt by filling water to lake from ocean, because oceans salt density is lower than lake. The lecturer, however, rebuts this by mentioning that although we can reduce the salt density, it requires to build canals and pipelines to guide the water, and this operation is so expensive,so local government can’t cope with it.
Finally, the author states that we can divide lake into few parts and reduce the salt level in some portions. In contrast, the lecturer position that is method isn’t work for very long time.Because geologic activities like earthquake can destroy the walls,as a result two part of water get combined and salt level won’t reduce, and it will back to first state.
