Both the article and the lecture are about the smart car technology. According to the article, there will be many advantage of using smart cars in the future such as, having safer roads, spending less time in the traffic and the drivers will be like passengers since there will be not need for their control. However, the professor argues the points made by the author by claiming that this new smart car technology will not bring that much advancements in our lives.

First of all, the author starts by claiming that the smart car technology will prevent many more traffic accidents. Since those cars will be controlled by the main operator, this system will eliminate accidents. However, the professor argues this statement by saying that even sometimes electronic devices make mistakes and giving the fact that many cars will be controlled from one monitor, when an accident occurs, the involvement of cars will be with a great number and this situation might be resulted with a huge disaster.

Secondly, according to the author, within the smart car innovation, people will be spending less time in traffic. This is because computer-controlled cars follow each other with the same program system, therefore the highway speed can be increased, and this will be results with less time spending in the traffic. In contrast, the professor mentions that this development will not likely to be happened, she adds that history has been proofed from the past developments that, many people will want to experience driving smart cars and this will be resulted having many more cars in the traffic and furthermore, there will not be that much change than nowadays, in terms of spending time in traffic.

Finally, the article says that the travel cost will be reduced since the most routes will be direct and there will be no need for changes of breaks or tires. On the other hand, the professor deputes this statement by saying, this high technology smart car developments are quite expensive, adding additional such as sensors and the other technological devices to the smart cars will be resulted with spending much more money to the repairmen than the usual cars require.
