Topic: Do computer thinks?
The speaker is responding to a question about if computers think. He provides some reasons to show that computers do not think, and the turing study it is not acurate to respond this question. In contrast, the article claims that looks like if computer thinks and the turing test might prove it.
First, the article states that an experiment will ask a person to ask a question to a computer. The computer will answer, and base on the response the person who asked the question will defines if it was a computer or a person that answered. The professor is against this study because he thinks that this study will not work due to the fact that computers have a wide reference of languages. For example, if an american speaker ask a typing question to a chinesse speaker, then, the chinesse response will be translated automatically to English by the computer in order to make the american speaker understand, but this does not mean that the computer is thinking, rather the computer is programmed to do that.
Second, the article states that the author of the turing test is offering a huge amount of money to the computer programmer who can surpass the study. In contrast, the professor states that the study do not respond the most important question if computer thinks because computers have a program behavior, they are not aware about the things that they do. In conclusion, the study won't be accurate.
To sum up, the professor disagrees that the turing test is an effective method to prove that computers think.
