TPO.15
The reading states about problems related to huge population of cane toads in Australia and proposed three methods in order to remove these kinds of animals. However, the professor in the lecture casts serious doubt on the passage by using a number of points that are contrary to each of the author's reasons.
First of all, the reading claims that we can reduce them by building a national fence to protect places that have not populated by them yet. In contrast the professor refutes this point by saying that it is not effective. He mentions that river streams can bring young toads and their eggs to the other side. So we should find another technique.
On another hand, the article posits that we can use people and volunteers to capture and destroy the toads. However, the teacher describes that these guys are not professional. According to the professor, using these untrained volunteers can affect other animals that are similar to toads. In fact, people cannot distinguish between those animals.
Finally, the reading makes it clear that some researchers have suggested using viruses in order to provide diseases for toads. On the other hand, the lecturer opposes this point by explaining that it can harm original habitat. We also learn that Australia has exported some materials to other countries like South America, and it can make a disaster for ecological habitat.
