The text and lecturer offer two opposing views on the accuracy of hypothesis that illustrates some reasons for the source of strange sound called ‘Quackers’. While the reading passage provides some clues as the sources of this odd phenomenon, the professor counters these specific points, and provides some hints to call into question for the information in the lecture.
First of all, the professor disapproves the option of Ocra whales; however, in the text Ocra whales and their sounds for mating are named as an option for this bizarre noise. The professor asserts that the sound is detected in the deep part of ocean, while the whiles are living in the surface of ocean. Moreover, if the sound produced by Ocra, the sonar were be able to recognize it.
Next, although the passage mentions to giant squid as the one of the producer of this sound, the woman casts doubt on the truth of this claim. The professor states that this sound appeared just in a specific and definite period and then it disappeared. Thus, the giant squid should be disappeared as the sound stopped. Since the giant squids are continuing to live in that region till now, they cannot be the reason of this event.
Finally, the professor argues that the foreign submarines could not cause to this event. Meanwhile, in the reading part another country's military technology on that zone is considered as a reason of this incident. The lecturer mentions that the submarines cannot alter its direction too fast, while the sound moves so quickly. In addition, the submarines have engine noise which they are no any this kind of sounds on that time.
