Whether automobiles are much more of a burden to modern society than a facilitator and, in retrospect, whether societies would have been better off without this invention is an obscure issue. Nobody can deny that automobiles have introduced many problems to societies and the world as a whole, ranging from traffic congestion, accidents and loss of life to the destruction of the atmosphere and the global ecosystem. However, after carefully weighting the following facts, it becomes clear that automobiles, both on an individual and a collective basis, are more beneficial than harmful to society.
