The text and lecturer offer two opposite views on the accuracy of hypothesis which illustrates the reasons of the yellow cedar decline. While the reading part presents some factors as the candidates of this incident, the professor counters these specific points and depicts some facts to put into the question for the reasons in the reading passage.

First of all, the lecturer disapproves the parasites cedar bark surmise, which in the reading part is named as one of the yellow cedar attackers. The professor states that the yellow cedar is one of most resistance species, because its healthy trunk is saturated with a chemical which is toxic for the insects. Whenever, the cedar barks attack these trees they will be die. Moreover, those trees attacked by the cedar barks are the old and sick ones. Thus, the barks cannot be responsible for this event.

Next, although in the text the brown bears and their claw and aggressive feeding habits are candidate as one of the reasons of this situation, the professor casts doubt on the truth of this claim. As the lecturer asserts the decrement are happened in the both main-land and island. While there are no any brown bears in the island, the population of the cedar in this zone is decreased too. Hence, the brown bear cannot be accountable for this situation.

Finally, the lecturer argues that there is the main decrement in the lower evaluation where has the warm climate. Meanwhile, in the reading part, the gradual changes of climate and cold weather considers as one of the factors of this event. According to the professor evidence, the decline takes place in the region with hot weather instead of the high spots with the cold weather.
