In the reading, the author provides three solutions for preventing birds to get injured when they try to fly through regular windows. On the other hand, finding all the ideas questionable and implausible, the lecturer casts doubt on each of the author's solutions and presents some evidence to the contrary.
First, the reading passage argues that utilizing one-way glass window instead of regular windows is more effective because birds will see the window as a barrier. Conversely, the lecturer asserts that the birds would find reflecting window like a mirror. They don't know mirror. In addition, it is likely that the picture of sky or trees is reflected on the one-way window. It causes to motivate birds to fly through that. It follows that using this kind of window would not work properly.
Furthermore, another solution that is made by the author is that by painting distinctive pattern colorful lines on the regular window, the birds will see the stripes and avoid to fly toward the windows. However, the lecturer refutes this point by explaining that the birds interpret unpainted areas as open holes. Therefore, they would fly in the direction of the window. In order to work this solution well, the stripes should be very small, but in this way, the inside of the building might be too dark.
Finally, the passage posits that people can make benefits from the natural ability of birds for navigating their path by using magnetic fields. Hence, if they establish an instrument like a magnetic compass on the regular window, the birds will change their direction from the window appropriately. On the contrary, the speaker disagrees with this idea. According to him, the birds use their magnetic senses for migration in long distances. They cannot use this capability when they travel short distances like flying from one city to another. For their short trips, their eyes help them to detect the sunlight direction order to finding the best way for their journey.
