The reading passage claims that there are many skeptics that support these fossil structure did not resemble bee nests. The lecturer casts serious doubt on this claim by presenting some counter-arguments and examples. She believes that none these proofs are convincing.
At the first place, she contends that the bees can preserve fossil by sticky materials which some trees can make also, these kind of trees are really rare at that time, thus it is not good evidence to support that bees did not exist 200 million years ago. This, however, is contradicted to the reading passage argues that no fossil remains of actual bees have ever been found on that date additionally the earliest one were detected 100 million years ago.
On the other hand, it is noted in the passage that absence of flowering plants in that period can determine that it is unlikely bees could have existed before that time. In contrast, the lecturer clearly states that it is true that 200 million years ago, there were not any flowering plant, though, bees can feed from non-flower plant moreover after appearing of flowering plants, t was the evolution time for bees which could change their taste in order to attract to flowering plants, therefore it is not persuasive proof for rejecting of bees at that time.
Finally, the speaker points out that by some chemical advance which use to detect something from fossils, we can realize that they use the same material which is waterproof for protecting their nest chambers like modern bees. Nonetheless the text asserts that because of lacking of the finer details of bee's nest we cannot guarantee that this structure relevant to bee nests.
